Does anyone want to buy a house? A car? A flatscreen TV? We're Moving to England, baby!

FINALLY! After all the opaque references to "things are happening, related to England, but of which I cannot speak..." etc etc. I can finally spill the beans. This has to be short, as I am again "oop north" on another spotty connection, but here it is in haiku like format.

Job Interview last week with Manchester University--via video conference.
Formal Job Offer Yesterday. Independence Day (oh ironies of ironies).
We're doing it.
Moving to England in September.

My baby boys are going to Northern Accents, ala Wallace (of Wallace and Grommit)

'Ay 'Up!!!'

More soon. I promise!

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs !!!!

Wally woo here proud father to the Squidge. I was just catching up on All things Squidge that are currently going on over in MA when I got sidetracked by your news. Congratulations! I hope you are pleased with your decision.
As a resident of the "House of Squidge" in sunny, ok let's face it, rainy, Manchester. I would like to welcome you aboard, after all misery loves company !!!
If you need any advice about life in the People's Republic of Mancunia just ask LindyLoo we'll be glad to help. We did the same thing a couple of years ago. There are three of us in the house at Squidge corner 2 Brits, 2 Americans and 2 Portuguese so we have a wealth of experience to share.

Ee, by gum! Er, sorry, that's as Northern as I can do.

How about, ahya madferrit or wot?

Congratulations with a steaming side serving of jealous betch.

Whoa. That's amazing. Congratulations! (I feel this bizarre sense of loss that you're going so far away. As if there were no Internet in England.)

Virtualsprite said...

Congratulations to you! I'm so jealous, of course, being a huge anglophile. And it's better to have Wallace accents than Yooper anyday!

Congrats and may I highly recommend Craig's List? We've purged easily twice before moves with that. :)

GOOD LUCK and hope you do vlogging (or whatever it's called). ;)

Big news indeed!

Congratulations! I'm with B&P. I immediately felt all sad, and had to forcibly remind myself that you can still blog from England.

Lawyer Mama said...

Congrats!! And of course you will keep blogging in England, right? Right?

metro mama said...

Awesome! Congrats!

you'd better believe I'll still be blogging in England--hopefully more consistently too. After all, I must bore you all to tears with the long and drawn out saga of *moving back* *euphoria* *regret* *resignation* *contentment* (my prediction, at least)

thanks so much for all the well wishes--it means a lot:)

gingajoy said...

and Wally Woo? THANK YOU!!! (you'd better believe we'll be asking for some advice:))

Congratulations!! Welcome back to England!

Huge contented sigh.

I love thinking of everyone I care about being where they feel most at home.

Congratulations!

YAY! I win! Gingajoy is mine all mine, even if she's going be up north and I'm down south, dagnammit I shall still visit her and feed her Marmite and Custard Creams. Congratulations, Joy, this is so exciting!

Congrats! Still we're Liverpool fans so I can't say "Support your local footie team" -- but Congrats on the move back to England!

Yay! Good luck. We'll miss you in North America - thank God for the country of Blogosphere.

Hurrah, another migrant to the "sunny" north west :)

Delurking to say congratulations. My son has been here five months and is already saying bath and not barth.

Even speaking as a Londoner and therefore still a foreigner to these parts, I can reassure everyone that we can indeed blog here in Manchester, we have t'power of t'internet. (It worried me too).

Mocha said...

We'll meet at BlogHer Chicago first, right? I can't have you traipsing all over the globe before I pet your pretty hair now, can I?

I'm sort of shocked because I missed all the references and you threw me off with that vaccinated post by the hubs. But. Wow.

I will have a place to stay.

Like I'm ever going to get over there...

Yet, I'll miss you here. And we've never met. So, where is "here"? (I'm going to stop now that I'm waxing emotional)

Bloor West Mama said...

Congrats!!!

What a great opportunity for the family.

Brilliant, just brilliant:)

Mrs. Davis said...

WOW! Congratulations!! I can't even imagine what's involved with an overseas move, but I'm sure you're thrilled that you'll be closer to your family. Yippee!

I love Wallace. Once your boys have acquired the accent, I expect you to post an audio clip in which they say nothing but "CHEEEEEESE!"

Congrats again!

Mad Hatter said...

Ahhhhh! You're going to raise little Morriseys. Oh my!

Congratulations, Joy. I visited Manchester once and thought it a cool city. Very progressive in its green agenda--I guess trying to divorce itself from that ole heart of the industrial revolution past.

Yay you on snagging the job too.

mayberry said...

Wow!!! Congratulations and good luck, chook (that was trying to be a W&G reference, which probably sailed under everyone's radar).

Ozma said...

YOWZA. You actually did something you said you were going to do.

Who does that?

Also, you got a job already. You are such a planner!

This all sounds like faint praise but I am kind of in awe. Congratulations!

P.S. Can you take the Toyota Sienna?

Congratulations!!!!

Lurker here...just saying Congrats!

MsPrufrock said...

Wow, congratulations. I'm in the South of England, so my grasp of Northern talk doesn't go much beyond 'ay up, and I don't even know what that means.

How exciting!

Birchsprite said...

Hooray!

I'll get the kettle on...

(although gloucestershire is hardly next door...but pop in for a cuppa anytime!)

Suburban Mum said...

Oh PS, Wallace & Gromit are from Yorkshire - you really don't want to go making references like that when you're in Manchester, the old War of the Roses thing still runs pretty strong (although not as bad as the North/South divide which I have also discovered, being a Southerner) :)

Oh, The Joys said...

Ay up, indeed! Congrats on the new job!!

(You're still coming to Chicago, right?)

Elizabeth said...

Joy!!! Congratulations!!! You'll find a hosting provider in Manchester, right? We won't have to go too long without your blog? That is so amazing!

When you have your massive garage sale to sell all the things you don't want to pay per pound to ship over there, would you let me know? You know how much I love garage sales! :) Gah! I am going to MISS YOU! We MUST have a playdate, a Coldstone get-together, and a Panera coffee and bagel date if we can before you leave! *sniff* I'm getting all choked up here. Sorry.

megachick said...

congratulations! what an opportunity for your family. best of luck with everything. i wish i could just sell off the entire contents of my house when we move, even though we'll still be in the same state...

Mary Tsao said...

Congratulations! Of course, for all I know you already live in England... These internets are so confusing.

But, whoo hoo! I'm very excited for you.

Redneck Mommy said...

Yippee! You'll be able to call me a wanker with much more authenticity than you do now.

I'm very pleased for you and you're family. Of course, I'll be able to show you just HOW pleased I am when we meet in a few weeks.

(Imagine slobbering kisses, inappropriate hugging and the odd boob graze...all drunken and unintentional of course...)

Fairly Odd Mother said...

Congratulations!!! I'm so glad that this internet stuff is worldwide b/c I'd hate to lose you!

New job, whu-hooo! And, Manchester U - cool. I have a soft spot for I was almost a Liverpudlian myself before my Canadian parents came home.

Now good luck with making it all come true.

That's really great! For your house, agents would definitely love to get on that project.

Hamptons Real Estate said...

The Hamptons Real Estate Market has changed a lot in recent years, the one thing that remains consistent here is that the homes are all luxury designs with amenities that most in this particular market expect. Although, it might be as true for some of the more local and year round residential properties. Anyway, nice post.

This is an interesting article. Im not sure how I came across a Real Estate article, but interesting read.
